On Saturday, 15th November 2025, the Gamswitch team; led by Samba Omar Sowe (CFO and Acting CEO), Baboucarr Drammeh (CTO), and Mrs. Elizabeth Ndene (Head of Business Development & Marketing Department); had the honour of joining Peter Gomez on the “Central Bank Your Money Show” on West Coast Radio. The conversation offered a timely and valuable opportunity to shed light on Gamswitch’s central role in shaping The Gambia’s digital payment landscape and advancing financial inclusion nationwide.

The discussion opened with a simple but important question: What exactly is Gamswitch? Our team collectively provided a clear explanation, outlining our mandate as the national payment switch and our responsibility in connecting financial institutions across the country. We also highlighted one of our major services, the Gamswitch Payment Gateway, which is now available to businesses, allowing them to integrate secure online payments and accept options like Mastercard and Visa.

A deeper question followed: What gap was Gamswitch created to fill, and how are we addressing that gap today? Our team explained this thoroughly, focusing on our ongoing efforts to achieve full interoperability; bank to bank, bank to wallet, and wallet to wallet. This work is essential to ensuring instant, seamless fund transfers across all platforms while supporting the broader goal of full digitalization within the financial sector.

When the host asked what makes Gamswitch stand out from other payment platforms, our team shared meaningful insight. They emphasized our unique position as the country’s only national payment switch and described the work underway to harmonize all financial channels. Using an analogy, they explained that Gamswitch functions much like a “midfielder” in the payment ecosystem; coordinating and routing transactions across all participating institutions to ensure smooth and efficient movement of funds.

The conversation then shifted to the importance of Gamswitch’s existence and its role in driving financial inclusion. This was articulately addressed with key points on how our infrastructure, partnerships, and innovations are helping expand access to digital financial services for individuals and businesses alike.

The team also highlighted the progress being made on the national QR payment system, which will soon enable convenient cashless payments at supermarkets, restaurants, service points, and more. This aligns with our broader mission to simplify everyday transactions for everyone.
Security, one of the most critical elements of digital payments, was another major point of discussion. Our team reassured listeners by detailing the robust security frameworks deployed across our systems to ensure safety, reliability, and trust for all users.

In conclusion, this session reaffirmed Gamswitch’s commitment to transforming the digital payment landscape in The Gambia. We are pleased to announce that this radio program will continue every Saturday from now until the end of the year. We encourage everyone to stay tuned and keep following as we explore more important topics in the coming weekends, bringing the public closer to understanding the future of payments in The Gambia.
