2014

Gamswitch Incorporated

Gamswitch Company Limited was incorporated under the Companies Act of The Gambia, established as the national payment switch to drive interoperability across the financial sector.

Central Bank Mandate Secured

The Central Bank of The Gambia officially mandated Gamswitch as the sole national payment switch, granting the authority to connect all financial institutions across the country.

2017

First Interbank Connection Live

Gamswitch went live with its first interbank connection, enabling real-time fund transfers between two commercial banks — a first in The Gambia's financial history.

2018

ATM Network Goes Nationwide

The national ATM switching network was officially launched, enabling cardholders of any member bank to withdraw from any ATM across The Gambia regardless of their bank.

2019

Mobile Money Interoperability Launched

Gamswitch introduced mobile money interoperability, allowing users of different mobile money wallets to transact with each other seamlessly for the first time.

2020

POS Network Expansion

The national POS switching infrastructure was extended to cover over 500 merchant terminals across major urban and peri-urban areas, significantly boosting cashless payments.

2021

QR Code Payment Pilot

Gamswitch piloted a unified QR code payment standard, enabling merchants to accept payments from multiple wallets and banks through a single QR code.

2022

RTGS Integration

Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) integration was completed, enabling high-value, time-critical interbank settlements to be processed instantly and securely.

2023

Card Management System Launched

Gamswitch launched its own national Card Management System, enabling member banks to issue and manage debit cards under a unified national scheme.

2024

Digital Financial Inclusion Drive

Gamswitch partnered with microfinance institutions and rural banks to extend payment infrastructure to underserved communities, adding over 20 new member institutions.

2025

National Payment Gateway Live

The National Payment Gateway went live, providing merchants and online businesses with a single integration point to accept payments from all Gambian banks, wallets, and cards.
